Mini Biography- Growing up in a small, isolated village in Austria, he turned to bodybuilding as his ticket to a better life. Prior to that he served a mandatory one year in the Austrian military (beginning in 1965). After conquering the world as arguably the greatest bodybuilder who ever lived, he went to America to make his name in motion pictures. Hampered by his impossible name and thick accent, success eluded him for many years. It wasn't until he found the tailor-made role of Conan that he truly came into his own as a performer. A succession of over-the-top action films made him an international box office star. By alternating violent action films with lighter, comedic fare, he has solidified his position as one of the most popular - if not the most popular - movie stars in the world. After his long, and successful movie career, he ran in the California recall. He is now the Governor of California, yet another celebrity to be elected to the position.
Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger acknowledged that he fathered a child with a member of his household staff, a shocking revelation that prompted his heartbroken wife Maria Shriver to leave the couple's home. Shriver moved out of the family's Brentwood mansion earlier this year, after Schwarzenegger acknowledged the paternity. The staff member worked for the family for 20 years, retiring in January. "After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Schwarzenegger said Monday night in a statement issued to The Times in response to questions. "I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry. Shriver said, “This is a painful and heartbreaking time. As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment. Paul Talbert, a partner at matrimonial and family law firm Chemtob Moss Forman & Talbert, says the scandal will complicate the couple’s likely divorce. “Maria sacrificed her own successful career and identity for the sake of Arnold’s political ambitions, as well as her family, only to be betrayed and now, publicly humiliated by him,” says Talbert. “Although I believe that this divorce will be negotiated and resolved outside of the glare of the public spotlight, Arnold will likely have to pay a form of premium to Maria to keep this private and minimize any excessive damage to his reputation and good will with the public.” He said, "I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time," the statement concluded. "While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not." Daughter Katherine also addressed the situation on Twitter. "This is definitely not easy but I appreciate your love and support as I begin to heal and move forward in life," she wrote Tuesday afternoon, adding, "I will always love my family!" "We are very fortunate that we have four extraordinary children and we're taking one day at a time," he said at a Los Angeles event marking Israeli independence. Their children range in age from 13 to 21. Shriver, who described her husband as an "A-plus human being" when he was accused of sexual misconduct in 2003, released a written statement Tuesday calling it "a painful and heartbreaking time.
